Today’s Quote – Learning To Accept The Compliment

Lena Dunham quote I think one big mistake… Girls are trained to say, 'I wrote this, but it's probably really stupid.' Well, no, you wouldn't write a novel if you thought it was really stupid. Men are much more comfortable going, 'I wrote this book because I have a unique perspective that the world needs to hear.' Girls are taught from the age of seven that if you get a compliment, you don't go, 'Thank you', you go, 'No, you're insane.'

I had to learn to go, ‘Thank you.’ Because it’s much easier to go, ‘Thank you so much, I’m actually a huge piece of shit who has no worthy things to offer the world, so I appreciate that you said that.’

Today’s Quote – Musical Freedom

Kurt Cobain Punk is musical freedom. It's saying, doing and playing what you want. In Webster's terms, 'nirvana' means freedom from pain, suffering and the external world, and that's pretty close to my definition of Punk Rock.

Today’s Quote – Second Class Citizens

STEVIE NICKS

We felt like, together, we were a force of nature. And we made a pact, probably in our first rehearsal, that we would never accept being treated as second-class citizens in the music business. That when we walked into a room we would be so fantastic and so strong and so smart that none of the uber-rockstar group of men would look through us.

And they never did.

Today’s Quote – At Least Someone Noticed

chris ware

One of the most valuable things one of my art teachers said to me was, ‘Don’t get upset by criticism. Value the fact that at least someone noticed what you did.’

Today’s Quote – Our Greatest Fear

Joseph Campbell quote our greatest fear is fear of the unknown

The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek. Fear of the unknown is our greatest fear. Many of us would enter a tiger’s lair before we would enter a dark cave.

While caution is a useful instinct, we lose many opportunities and much of the adventure of life if we fail to support the curious explorer within us.
